One of the challenges for schools and parents is getting the message of safe driving across to school leavers, and young drivers. This group of drivers are the highest risk category, and under 25s are a group most likely to be involved in an accident.
Kumho Tyre, and St George Illawarra Dragons, have teamed up to launch, Kumho School Safety Series - to educate young drivers and prepare them for this stage of their life. The inaugural event was hosted by Corrimal High School with Kumho Tyre representatives David Basha and Rachael Sinai including Dragons players, Mose Masoe and Izaac Thompson - who were there to help deliver the message. Over 100 students from Year 10, 11 and 12 attended the event, offering a hands-on introduction into driver safety, and car maintenance. They learnt the importance of being tyre-ready, from tread, pressure, changing a trye and driving in the wet. David Basha, National Marketing Manager of Kumho Tyre Australia, said it was an eye opener to see how many students already driving were unaware of the fundamentals of general car maintenance and safety. “A lot of kids do not know how to change a tyre, or check for air pressure. We feel the kids gained a lot from these sessions,” David explained. “It was also great to involve the Dragons players, Mose and Izaac. They really related with the students, and shared their experiences.” On the back of the successful event at Corrimal High School, Kumho Tyre are excited to roll out the School Safety Series across other schools.
