Tostevin And Adams Are WA’s Newest Rally Champions

Doug Tostevin is still getting used to the fact he is the new WA Rally Champion.

“It hasn’t really sunk in yet but it feels very rewarding to be a part of that small group of people who have achieved that goal,” the Subaru WRX driver said.

Tostevin and co-driver Tammy Adams secured the title after winning Saturday’s Carringtons Traffic Services Safari Rally around Chidlow.


It was their second win of the six-round season. The first – which was also the pair’s first ever WARC event win – was at the Experts Cup Rally at the end of June in Collie.

“That was the highlight of the season,” Tostevin said.

The talented driver’s scorecard for 2014 also included finishing third in Heat One of the Quit Forest Rally and second in Heat Two. At the Lewana Stages Rally in July, he finished second.

Tostevin started rallying in 1988 when he was 18. His first competition car was a Datsun.

“I changed over to Subaru in 1995 and have never looked back,” the 44-year-old said.

Tostevin and Adams have competed together for three years but have been friends for many more.

“We have lots of good laughs in the car, even during the stages when I write unusual notes,” Tostevin said.

Both competitors are dedicated supporters of rallying in WA.

Tostevin’s company S Technic, a Cannington-based Subaru service centre, is a sponsor of the WARC, while Adams is an active member of the WA Rally Advisory Panel and senior CAMS official.

The pair thanked the S Technic team for preparing their WRX and Tyres and More Morley for helping with Kumho tyres.
