Kumho Tyres has been awarded the 2024 Green Good Design Award in North America with three of its tyres being cited for the prestigious award.
The award is an extension of the Good Design Award, and one of the three most prestigious honours in the design world.
It recognises design works that promote environment-friendliness and sustainability and is organised by the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design, and Urban Studies.
Kumho Majesty X Solus tyre, Solus TA21 tyre, and highly praised Road Venture AT52 all terrain tyre were named as winners of the award.
The Majesty X Solus, is an upgraded version of the previous premium Majesty Solus tyre, and is Kumho’s highest status tyre designed for sedans, coupes, and crossover SUV vehicles.
It delivers superb in-vehicle comfort and handling performance, boasting versatility on all surfaces, including dry, wet, and snowy roads. The X Solus enhances comfort through noise reduction technology that employs dimples to distribute noise from tyre grooves more evenly. It has also been designed to leverage an advanced system for pattern design and analysis to improve driving performance and reduce wear.
The Solus TA21 offers a broad lineup ranging in sizes from 13 to 18 inches, accommodating compact, through to midsize cars, while offering great value for money and best-in-class performance. Its optimum block patterns was designed for noise distribution and reduction, ensuring excellent in-vehicle comfort and superb noise performance.
Kumho’s Road Venture AT52 is designed for both on- and off-road use, delivering reliable performance on rugged terrains including rocky and muddy surfaces, a feature that makes the tyre popular with users of 4WD utes, SUVs, and off road vehicles. Its robust shoulder block geometry on the tread features saw-tooth edges for improved off-road grip, while its five-pitch block variation enables quiet and comfortable driving on regular roads.
Head of the R and D Division at Kumho Tyre, Kim Youngjin, said tyre makers have a social responsibility for the environmental impact of their products.
“Improved design can increase the duration of product use through greater anti-wear performance and higher fuel efficiency, which, in turn, reduces waste tires and contributes to the prevention of environmental pollution,” said Youngjin.
“We will further strengthen our technological prowess regarding eco-friendliness and sustainability to transform ourselves into a brand that excels in both design and quality,” he added.
Recently, Kumho won the Good Design Award of Japan for its WP52 EV tyre, which was also honoured with Germany’s Red Dot Design Award 2024 in April.
