Kumho Tyres has won the overall championship in the VLN series, the Nurburgring endurance race in Germany this year.
Peugeot RCZ Team run on Kumho Tyres’ Ecsta S700 Tyres won its SP2T class in total scores early in the race with a No. 1 finish in nine out of ten races. This marks a second time win for Kumho Tyres following last year, showing the tyre manufacturer’s high levels of technology and quality to the world.
The VLN, one of the world’s top three endurance races, was founded in 1977 by several motorsport clubs, which are members of ADAC or Deutscher Motorsport Verband (DMV). It is taken place on the Nürburgring, a shrine for all motorsports.
The Nürburgring race is run on full 25.4 km on a road course which is notoriously perilous and tough and a final winner is determined after a drive of up to 39 circuits, about 1,000 km, within six hours. The extreme race is attended by not only finished car manufacturers but also world renowned tyre makers such as Michelin and Dunlop.
“The championship in the VLM endurance race reaffirms Kumho Tyres’ technology leadership in racing tyre and our company will remain a global tyre manufacturer favored by consumers around the world and grow as Korea’s leading motorsports company,” said Il-taek Jung, executive director of Kumho Tyre's central research center.
