TCR AUSTRALIA SIGNS ON WITH KUMHO FOR ANOTHER SERIES OF RACING DOWN UNDER

TCR Australia Round 1

Kumho Tyre will again be the control tyre supplier for the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, which commenced at Melbourne’s Sandown circuit on the weekend of 9-11 February  for what is the first of six rounds in the 2024 Series.

The series will feature the final two rounds to be held at Sydney Motorsport Park and Mt Panorama at Bathurst, which will both be rounds of the TCR World Tour, with the World’s best TCR teams competing with Australian teams on the same Kumho race tyres

Kumho Tyre gained the various TCR rights including the TCR World Tour and TCR Australia from the start of season 2023 and the first full year proved a major success for both TCR and for Kumho. Kumho Tyre has also been exclusively supplying TCR Europe, TCR Eastern Europe, TCR Denmark, and TCR Spain since 2022, proving the technology and quality, including grip performance and handling.

Touring Car Racing (TCR) is property of the World Sporting Consulting (WSC) Group, which leads the global touring car racing competition and the formula has expanded its global influence year on year since the international competition was first launched in 2015.

The FIA (Féderation Internationale de l'Automobile), the World governing body of motor sports has adopted the TCR competition and certified its regulations.

TCR cars are powered by a 2.0-litre turbo engine with a maximum output of 350 horsepower mated to a sequential gearbox with 25 homologated models from 16 car manufacturers currently certified by WSC for TCR competition.

All vehicles in the various TCR series, including the Audi RS 3 LMS TCR, Honda Civic Type R TCR, Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, and Hyundai Elantra N TCR, use the Kumho 'ECSTA S700,' slick for dry racing or ECSTA W701 wet racing tyre for wet conditions, both of which deliver excellent grip and stability, as well as handling performance in racing conditions.

Marcello Lotti, chairman of the WSC Group which controls TCR globally, said, Kumho Tyre is highly recognised for its technology and quality through objective performance evaluations.

‘As a result, they have been named official partner in some of TCR major series around the globe, including TCR Australia and TCR South America," Lotti said.

Janghyuk Yoon (John Yoon), senior vice president of Global Marketing at Kumho Tyre, said, the company was delighted to participate in the world's best motorsports competitions, such as TCR Australia.

"Since 2022, Kumho has been selected as a partner to supply racing tyres exclusively and is recognised for its technology in global motorsports competitions," Yoon said.
